Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture for Acne

Acne! Not Just for Teenagers…

Unfortunately, acne is not limited to our junior high/ middle school years. For many women in their 40’s and 50’s, acne can strike without warning. This is due to hormonal fluctuations taking place during Perimenopause and Menopause. I know, I know, it’s not fair! We already survived puberty, right? Don’t worry. Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture can help clear that up.

Why Try Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture for Acne?

Licensed acupuncturists treating within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) help to keep the energy within your body systems flowing in balance with the aim at clearing the skin and helping avoid further break-outs. Your acupuncturist may also make lifestyle recommendations to help empower you to look and feel your best.

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture History…

Facial acupuncture has been used to help improve aging gracefully for thousands of years. This is certainly nothing new in the anti-aging world. It is not just a new fad. Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture seems new to many. It is not. It has been widely used for quite some time with much success.

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture for Rosacea

Facial Rejuvenation is used to treat many things besides wrinkles, including Rosacea.

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is common and is seen as a tendency to flush with redness seen in the skin, usually the face. Blood vessels may become visible and if not treated over time this inflammation can lead to visibly bumpy skin over the cheeks and nose area with redness which may become permanent, especially over the nose.

An example of someone well-known who has Rosacea is former US President Bill Clinton with redness over the middle of his face.

What is Gua-Sha?

Gua sha is a tool used by licensed acupuncturists which is great for massaging the face of someone with Rosacea. Gua sha is smoothed over the face like a massage by the acupuncturist to help relax the stressed skin. Often gua sha tools are made with jade which is naturally cooling and soothing to the skin.

Rosacea Home Care:

  • Avoid the Sun/ Use SPF topical facial sunscreen
  • Avoid Spicy Foods (if a trigger)
  • Avoid becoming Over-heated

Yes! Acupuncture Stops Tension Headaches!

What is a Tension Headache?

Tension headaches are the most common of all headache types, usually felt as a constant, dull pain across the forehead or frontal/ forehead area. Tension headaches are not severe or worrisome, though they are annoying.

Causes/ Triggers of Tension Headaches:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Jaw Clenching
  • Poor ergonomics
  • Overworking/ Infrequent meals (typical “Type-A”  American)

Think This May Be Another Type of Headache?..

Is This the WORST Headache of Your Life? … Find Out if You Have Cluster Headaches Here!

Why Do I Keep Getting Tension Headaches?

The reason tension headaches are so rampant in the modern world is due to the “rat race” of trying to get it all done. We are all guilty of it at some point in our lives. Clenching the jaw while under deadlines or stressful situations is common with tension headache sufferers. Another reason could be the incorrect work ergonomics at your desk. Acupuncture is great for all types of headaches, including TMJ headaches and for relieving stress and issues which are stress-induced.

What You Can Do:

  • Get to a Licensed Acupuncturist for headaches!
  • Start a daily Mindfulness Meditation Practice
  • Re-evaluate Desk Ergonomics
  • Continue Self Care

Mindfulness meditation is a daily practice to help coax us out of staying constantly in this stressful “striving” mindset. If we stay in this “fight or flight” reactionary place too long, we burn the candle at both ends and become exhausted and suffer disease and dis-ease. This meditation type is aimed at helping to relieve suffering and dis-ease and is used successfully with many struggling with chronic pain and stress to get to a place of feeling more at ease, more often. Find further resources here.

Acupuncture is helpful for relieving headache pain and stress. Many patients come in monthly or seasonally after their main complaints resolve for a “tune-up” appointment to help keep their body in balance.

Self Care like regular meals, hydration and stretching at your desk can serve as muscle tension headache prevention.

If you are like me and can hyper-focus on what you are passionate about for hours without eating or drinking water, you may need to set an alarm in your phone until you get used to taking better care of yourself. Having a container for water handy may be serve as the visual cue to remind you while you work that you are not an android and must hydrate! If you do not, you will quickly remember just how human you are! Dehydration can lead to headaches and that sense of anxiousness, agitated mood or irritability-our body’s way of telling us to take a mini-break, sip and do a Yoga Pose or Two!

Acupuncture Treats Bell’s Palsy (Half Facial Paralysis) at Anoka Pain and Women’s Health

What Is Bell’s Palsy?

Bell’s Palsy occurs to half the face and is due to weakened facial muscles. Usually once first notices they cannot smile, drink without dribbling from one side of mouth or are unable to cry. It usually comes on suddenly, often one will just wake up one day to these symptoms without any warning ahead of time.

Acupuncture treats Half-Sided Facial Paralysis (aka Bell’s Palsy) and facial tics.

Causes of Bell’s Palsy:

Damage to seventh Cranial Nerve can lead to Bell’s Palsy and for some reason viral infections often coincide with the onset.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) the cause is seen as being due to the body falling under attack by external wind which strikes and is granted access to the interior of the body when the immunity is weakened.

Who Gets Bell’s Palsy?

  • Pregnant Women
  • Adults in their 20’s
  • Diabetics
  • Elderly

Signs/ Symptoms of Bell’s Palsy:

  • Half-sided Facial Paralysis
  • Half-Sided Facial Droop
  • Eyelid or Mouth Droop on One side
    • Dribbling while Drinking
    • Difficulty Smiling

Could this be a Stroke?

Of course, watch for signs/ symptoms of Stroke, such as inability to smile on one side, along with weakness in one hand (squeeze both hands to test for one weak side) or difficulty balancing (hold hand out in front at same level to test). A local police officer friend of mine coined it the “Frankenstein Test” for this reason. Of course, any new and sudden cognitive difficulty should be considered an emergency.

Points Used for Bell’s Palsy:

Licensed Acupuncturists needle Acupuncture points, Motor Points and Trigger Points in order to relieve half-face muscle paralysis and facial tics which may accompany Bell’s Palsy, especially if condition has become chronic.

When to Get Acupuncture for Bell’s Palsy:

Acupuncture works best when Bell’s Palsy patients get in as soon as possible after diagnosis of Bell’s Palsy. Acupuncture can also help those with symptoms of chronic Bell’s Palsy or facial tics which may come and go with stress.

Where Are Needles Placed for Bell’s Palsy?

Acupuncture points are located mostly on the face, though some are located distally on the arms and legs in order to treat the individual as he/ she presents with their overall constitution.

Will Acupuncture Needles Hurt?

Acupuncture needling in the facial area involves using thinner needles designed to treat the more delicate and sensitive areas such as the muscles of the face and for this reason there should be no pain. If you do feel pain, tell your licensed Acupuncturist so she/ he may readjust the needle.

Acupuncture Treatment for Paralysis And Loss of Sensation Post-Stroke:

Acupuncture also is used for Stroke and is widely used in China for this reason, where patients are given acupuncture treatment as soon as they are stabilized following stroke. In China, acupuncture has been integrated into the hospital and is considered part of the patient’s medical treatment. Acupuncture is considered useful medicine by most of the world’s population. This is interesting to many Westerners who think of Acupuncture as an alternative medicine.
